Art Talent Show (2022)

DESCRIPTION

The Academy of Arts (AVU) in Prague holds entrance exams every year. At three different studios, the film observes a demanding challenge the teachers are facing: how to find the chosen ones in the crowds of applicants, the new talents who will be given opportunities to form the art world in the following years? The talent test eventually becomes an art as such. A layered, observational documentary which presents a portrait of an institution and a light generational statement in one.

REVIEWS

The enjoyable, absorbing film seems primed for a healthy run on the documentary festival circuit, but its deserved win in the Proxima section at Karlovy Vary — a rare triumph for a nonfiction film in a lineup heavily weighted toward fiction — does also signal its accessibility to general festival and arthouse audiences.
